Why You Should Be Motivated

A motivated person is a productive person. When you feel motivated, you are able to accomplish things that you otherwise would not be able to accomplish. If you are motivated, you will be more likely to make good choices and, as a result, will be happier. A motivated person is more likely to succeed in school, at work, and in life.

The Secret of Self-Motivation

When you suffer from a lack of motivation, it is important to understand that self-motivation is an act of will. You are in control of your own motivation. As you are able to recognize your own patterns and triggers, you can begin to consciously control your own motivation.

For example, you may have felt good about a certain job or project when it began.  You were filled with enthusiasm and motivation.  Then you hit a few speed bumps and unexpected failures and your motivation waned.  You may have fallen into depression and decided to give up.  All of those positive thoughts turned into negative ones.

You must turn these negative emotions around and the best way to do that is to understand them, analyze them, and what caused them. We lose our motivation as we lose our focus, our confidence, and our direction. If you can learn to control these three emotions you can control your life.

Identify Your Values and Develop a “Why” for Your Life

There are several benefits to identifying your values and developing a “why” for your life. First, it helps you to know yourself better. It allows you to see where you stand and what you want to accomplish in the future. It also helps you to set goals and determine how you will achieve them. Finally, it helps you to stay focused on your priorities and avoid getting distracted by the things that don’t matter.

Find something to look forward to If you are looking at something and want to go on a good path it will give you a better motivation and help you set your goals at the same time. Even planning for this weekend will boost your confidence. Having a good outlook for the future can make your problem more bearable and manageable. Having more confidence and willpower is essential in achieving goals in an anticipatable time. A study using chronic gamblers as subjects posed questions to participants about upcoming events such as the holiday that was in sight.

Focus on what you really want.  Be specific and be positive.  We generally think in terms of what we don’t have rather than focus on what we want.  Don’t focus on your fears but on what you can do to overcome them.  Don’t focus on being poor but on a plan to create wealth.

To do this make a plan to get there one step at a time.  You don’t become the president of a company until you’ve come up from the ranks.  Focusing on your plan to achieve your objectives and your goals.  Be realistic about your goals.

 Set Realistic Goals

When you set a goal, you need to make sure that it is realistic and that you will be able to achieve it. Setting a goal that is too high or too low can lead to disappointment and frustration. Goals that are unreachable can lead to depression.  But even small goals that are achieved lead to increased motivation.

Setting unrealistic goals is a common mistake made by people who want to lose weight or get fit. They set goals that are far beyond what they can accomplish in a reasonable amount of time.

When you set goals, they should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely).

Without direction, there is no motivation.

You must create a day-to-day strategy.  Make a to-do list and do it.  Mark off each item once it’s accomplished and do not mark it off until it’s done.

You’ll eventually get tired of looking at it on your list and do it.  By making a list or outline of what needs to be done, you’ll find ways to do it.

Manage your to-do list

I find feeling motivated difficult when my task list gets overwhelming. If you don’t get all things completed, you could never do anything. Remember most people underestimate the time required to do something.  Check out your list.  Check whether some tasks are possible on a separate day. Prioritize the top priority items and place these at the top.

Breaking tasks down to fix your lack of drive

Try dividing your job into small parts to overcome the lack of motivation. So you need to break it into chunks. When you divide big tasks into smaller tasks, it gives you something you can achieve quickly which increases your motivation. As you complete every small task you move toward completing a larger task.

Set Up a Daily Routine

The daily routine is a set of activities that we do each and every day. These activities can be as simple as taking a shower and brushing our teeth or as complex as running a big busy household.

Change your routine

A process that repeats itself and can be frustrating. Try to break up monotones to make your days more exciting.

Boost your confidence

By taking stock of what skills you already have and not what you lack.  You’ll probably discover you’re more successful than you think.  We waste our mind power being jealous of others instead of working on achieving our own aspirations. Don’t take your strengths for granted

Practice Self-Compassion

Self-critical slander isn’t effective. When we are self-critical, it doesn’t feel good. Studies have been conducted that show that empathy motivates people. Several studies have reported that self-compassion helps in recovering from failure. The practice of self-compassion can be motivating. It may make people more likely to change their own weaknesses when they practice it an essential part of self-compassion.

Act as if you feel motivated

When we’re faced with a task or situation we don’t like, our body produces chemicals to help us deal with it. These chemicals are called neurotransmitters. They help control our moods, behaviors, and emotions. When we act as if we’re feeling motivated, our brain produces more of these neurotransmitters. This causes us to feel more motivated and helps us get things done.

 Argue the Opposite

If your motivation is struggling, then you may find many reasons and excuses to stop taking action. Maybe you’re worried it’s hard and that you cant do it. It’s the thought that you think it’s hard and that you are going to fail, that keeps you stuck. Flip it and give yourself another argument, you should list every indication you have that you can do it and how it will be easy, maybe you will be surprised and it is easier than you expected.

Set Up a Reward System

The reward system is an excellent way to motivate yourself to do something you might not want to do. By rewarding yourself with something you enjoy, you are more likely to do it again. You can use the reward system in many different ways. For example, you can reward yourself for exercising by taking a short break after your workout. Or, you can reward yourself for being more organized by treating yourself.

There are several ways to reward yourself, including getting a massage, going to the movies, or buying yourself something small. The most important thing to remember is that you have to make sure you reward yourself only for good behavior so that the positive feedback gets associated with completing the task.

Pair a dreaded task with something you enjoy.

It’s easier to do a task when it’s paired with something you enjoy. Just be careful your fun is not affecting your performance. For example, watching television while writing papers can cause you distractions or slow you down.

Use the 10-minute rule

To minimize your dread, Give yourself the right to leave the task in 10 minutes.

If you dread a task, you will be more likely to procrastinate. If you give yourself the right to leave the task in 10 minutes, you will be less likely to procrastinate.

Take a break

If you are feeling unmotivated, then take a break from your normal routine and do something different. For example, if you normally work at a desk, take a walk around the block. If you usually eat in the office, try going to a cafe for lunch instead. Doing something different will help you to feel more motivated again.

Trying to please everyone can exhaust your motivation levels

This is a good point to make. Trying to please everyone can exhaust your motivation levels. You may end up doing what people want rather than what you really want to do. You will have to be careful to always have your own goals in mind.

Having a growth mindset

There are two types of mentalities: fixed and growth. Those who have a fixed mindset tend to believe in the fact that they cannot control their ability and that their mind has no real capacity to develop new skills or intelligence.

Having a growth mindset helps keep you motivated because it helps you to see your situation as an opportunity for learning and growing. If you have a growth mindset, you are willing to accept that you will never be perfect and that you will always have room for improvement. A growth mindset also allows you to look at failures as stepping stones on the path to success.

Stop putting words on negative thoughts

If you are having a negative thought, you may be trying to convince yourself that what you are thinking is true. By putting a label on the thought, you are actually strengthening its power and making it seem more real.

Starting a conversation with a stranger helps with motivation because it is a new experience and you don’t know what to expect. It is a challenge and requires you to be on your toes and keep an open mind. It helps with mental clarity and improves your ability to think on your feet.

You might discover new opportunities that you would otherwise not know existed. You might find out something new or a place nearby that you might not be used to. Sometimes a conversation with a stranger can give you a new perspective which can lead to finding that missing piece to help reignite your enthusiasm and get you over a slump.
